PEOPLE

Without a doubt, taking a picture of a person is a great way to capture who they are, what they like to do, and much more. Much different than sport photography, taking pictures of specific individuals gives you more wiggle room to be creative. Without the ever so stressful ticking of the game clock, you are allowed to take a step back and truly capture aspects of their personality.

The Intensity: To be truly dedicated to your craft is a feat left only to those willing to give their heart and soul to their passions. This picture is of one of my fellow seniors who is dedicated to playing the trumpet and leaving an impact in the field of music. Whenever I see this person walking through the hallways he seems to be very stern and reserved. This sterness is part of who he is, and it makes him so dedicated to his craft. This is why I love this picture so much. He is so intent on hitting that note, that he seems to be staring ahead with unfaltering attention. Also this photo was a chore to take, as I was dodging marching band members. While I was taking this phot0, I seemed to be in the band, amongst a sea of harmonizing students. This picture will be featured in the 2015-2016 Looking Glass yearbook

Life is About the Laughs: Sometimes a laugh is with friends or a laugh is simply because you have shaving cream and cheese balls on your face. This picture was taken during an assembly. The pair that ended up with the most cheese balls on their face wins. I chose this picture because it shows how laughteris sometimes plain silly. Because life can be too serious, and a good laugh is all you need. The girl pictured also has a great smile, a smile that you remember. When I see this picture it not only brings me back to this moment, but it makes me smile.  This picture will be featured in the 2015-2016 Looking Glass yearbook

New School Jitters: Being a freshman is difficult. Instead of being top dogs, like you were a mere summer ago, you are at the bottom of the totem pole. The two freshman featured in this picture were on my soccer team. They both were anxious about high school, wondering if they were going to fit in. In this picture, taken at a pep rally, they seem to be realizing that high school is a lot of fun. I wanted to capture the moment where freshman break out of their shell. This picture was featured in the September issue of the Informer

Hold Still: Every so often, you'll take a picture and the lighting, contrast, etc will be perfect. This is rare, as the harsh artificial indoor lights usually distort the picture to a certain degree. This photo had perfect lighting and contrast. However, taking it was a little challenging, as the little girl in the picture at first was very uncomfortable getting her picture taken. As a journalist I assured her that everything was going to be okay, and that if she didn't want her picture taken, I would not take it. In the end she became more comfortable and I was able to snap this picture of her getting her face painted. I like to think of this picture as a way of showing her somewhat shy personality. With a little small talk and reassuring, her true colors shined through.  This picture was featured in the 2014-2015 Looking Glass yearbook.

Let's Play a Game: Pep assemblies can get pretty crazy. Have four grade levels battle it out for all the bragging rights, someone might get competitive. In this photo, the grades were playing musical chairs. The girl in the photo is one of the most competitive people I know. She has this drive that is amazing. This sense of drive is evident in this photo, as she sits down right when the music stops playing. I think it also captures the crazy fun of homecoming week. School work and GPA's are forgotten, and the school comes together for a week of fun. That's the beauty of homecoming week, being able to, for just a few days, be truly part of your school. This photo will be featured in the 2015-2016 Looking Glass Yearbook.

What's the Next Play: Sometimes the real action comes when the clock stops, or when there is a timeout or a pause in the regular game. This was during the first powderpuff game our school had in decades. A timeout was called, and the senior's team was waiting for further instruction. Even though this was just a fun game, without any state titles to be won, they still took it seriously, trying desperately to beat the underclassmen. This photo was difficult to take because the sun was setting and my camera was not liking this sudden change in light. It took me a few minutes to make sure the lighting was right. This photo was featured in the September issue of the Informer and will be featured in the 2015-2016 Looking Glass yearbook.
